Leg 1, Day 2

Image
Our second day (March 29) was a travel day from Jacksonville to Miami.  It started off great.  Rather than drive the whole way on I-95, we took A1A down the coast from Jax to Flagler Beach (reminded me of the old Jimmy Buffett album of the same name).  This was low-key and had some nice beach views At Flagler Beach, we jumped on I-95 and made good time until we got to around Boca Raton.  Then 95 turned into a parking lot and we moved to the Florida Turnpike which wasn't any better.  In the end, we didn't get to our hotel in Miami until after 5:30.   We're clearly spoiled with no big traffic problems living where we do in North Carolina (and especially since Covid) and this was probably a normal day in Miami.  I guess we're going to have to get used to bad traffic for much of the trip ahead.

Leg 1 Day 1

Our first day (March 28) on the first leg of our Baseball and National Parks trip was a familiar one.  We drove 8 hours from Durham to Jacksonville, FL  In Jax we had dinner and hung out with our son Brian and his family - his wife Soraya, our grandson Shane (15!), our granddaughter Langston (12) and our grandson Lennox (almost 6).  We don't get to see Brian and his family as much as we'd like,  but hopefully more, now in retirement.
